What losses does solar panel insurance cover?
- Design, construction, and commissioning should be carried out by certified professionals.
- Before installation, the structural integrity of the solar panel support framework should be assessed.
- Ensure proper wiring, cables, and connections are in place.
- When installing additional equipment, protect the solar panels and inverter from overvoltage.
- Comply with building regulations for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution structures, as well as the requirements of Latvian construction standards.
- Verify that project documentation, technical diagrams, and the list of device specifications are complete and accurate.
- If the loss is caused by fire or an explosion, immediately call the State Fire and Rescue Service at 112 or 01.
- If a theft, robbery, or attempted theft has occurred, immediately report it to the State Police at 112 or 02.
- As soon as possible, but no later than 3 days after the incident, contact Compensa. You can do this by calling 8888 or by submitting a claim form at compensa.lv.
Without Compensa’s written approval, after an insurance incident it is not permitted to:
- start repairs or restoration work on the damaged property, except for work necessary to immediately prevent further loss;
- acknowledge liability on behalf of the Insurer or make promises regarding compensation payments;
- dispose of the insured/damaged property without Compensa’s permission.
How to proceed in case of a property insurance claim? (in Latvian)
After an incident, you must immediately inform Compensa in writing about the accident and its circumstances, as soon as possible but no later than 3 business days, by completing the claim form available at www.compensa.lv.
You need to submit:
- an insurance claim form;
- receipts, reports, protocols, demands, and other documents necessary to determine the extent and circumstances of the loss.
After receiving your claim, a Compensa expert will contact you and, taking into account the circumstances and policy terms, will inform you about the next steps.
You can submit the documents in the way most convenient for you – by filling out the form on the Compensa website, sending documents by email to atlidzibas@compensa.lv, submitting the form in person at a customer service center, or sending the documents by post. All methods are accepted; the most important thing is to act as soon as possible after the insurance event occurs. This ensures that your claim is processed faster and the consequences are remedied more quickly.
Due to both geopolitical influences and rapid technological growth, solar panels have become an attractive solution in recent years to achieve energy independence and reduce rising energy costs.
In May 2024, in collaboration with the research agency “Norstat Latvia,” we conducted a study aimed at understanding residents’ habits regarding the installation and insurance of solar panels. The survey included 505 Latvian residents aged 20 to 75 living in private houses. The results showed that at the time of the study, solar panels were installed in nearly one in five private homes in Latvia (19%). However, 25% of respondents had no plans to insure them, missing out on the opportunity to receive financial support for property restoration in case of an incident.
